Grace Nellie Yeboah crowned as Miss Metropolitan Ghana 2020

Grace Nellie Yeboah was on Sunday 4th October crowned Queen for 2020 Miss Metropolitan Ghana. The Miss Metro Foundation, organizers of the pageant said it was aimed at crowning a beauty queen who would become a campaign ambassador for sanitation in Ghana and the various Metropolises.

The maiden edition was themed the “Role of the Ghanaian woman is fighting COVID-19”. 

The winner, Grace Nelle Yeboah, former student of Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) shared her excitement for winning the contest. She however emphasized that as Miss Metropolitan Ghana, she is determined to intensify education on the need to observe Covid-19 protocols. 

“We are focusing on our schools. Wearing of the nose masks that is what can save us as it stands now. I am here to help fight COVID-19 to ensure that we delay, we reduce and we prevent the spread”, she said.

Even though Grace Yeboah emerged winner, the other contestants are metropolitan queens in each metropolis and will work together to foster some change in the attitude of Ghanaians towards cleanliness and aid in the fight against Covid-19.

Speaking to the media after the pageant, Leader of the Risk Communication for COVID-19 National Response Team, Dr. DaCosta Aboagye who doubled as chair for the program shared the role of all the winners of the pageant.

“As public health practitioners we use various strategies…now we have community champions so our metropolitan queen is going to be one of the champions for people to comply with the safety protocols. Within the various cities, we have six so they are going to support her in educating people on wearing the face masks, washing of the hand with soap under running water. They will also champion sanitation because sanitation plays a key role in COVID-19 fight”. he said.

He further emphasized on the need for Ghanaians to comply with the Covid-19 protocols to prevent the surge in the cases from the virus.

“It is important for me to state that as Ghanaians we continue to fight and we have done our best, but the virus is still with us and unless we continue adhering to the safety protocols we may get a second wave as we have witnessed in some European countries. This is the time that we all have to comply with the safety protocols”, he stated.
