African Games 2023: Black Princesses beat Nigeria to secure gold for Ghana

Ghana’s U-20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, won their 11th gold medal at the African Games, securing an impressive 2-1 comeback extra-time victory against Nigeria at the Cape Coast stadium on Thursday night.

Ghana’s goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku fumbled a ball in the penalty box, allowing Edeh Njideka to score in the 23rd minute, bringing Nigeria ahead.

The Princesses demonstrated resilience and determination after falling behind, excelling in the first half but failing to convert any opportunities they created.

Yussif Basigi’s girls scored a goal in the 77th minute when Tracy Twum scored from a space on the left flank, leveling Ghana’s score.

The match went into extra time after no team could win in regulation.

Mukarama Abdulai scored the game-winning goal in extra time, causing a tense atmosphere at Cape Coast Stadium.

However, the Princesses managed to secure a victory despite facing late pressure from the Super Falconets.

Ghana wins the second gold medal in women’s football at the African Games, following its 2015 victory under coach Yussif Basigi.
