Ghanaian football player, Christian Atsu found dead in Turkey earthquake rubble

The two agents of Ghanaian footballer, Christian Atsu have confirmed that the body of the player was recovered on Saturday morning following the devastating earthquake in Turkey 11 days ago.

Nana Sechere issued a statement early Saturday morning following an earlier confirmation by Murat Uzunmehmet a few hours before.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce to all well wishers that sadly Christian Atsu’s body was recovered this morning,” Sechere wrote on Twitter.

“My deepest condolences go to his family and loved ones. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and support.”

“I ask that whilst we make the necessary arrangements, that everyone would please respect the privacy of the family during this very difficult time.”

Some survivors are still being rescued after the quakes and aftershocks in southern Turkey and northern Syria that are known to have killed more than 40,000 people.

Christian Atsu scored a last minute winning goal for Hatayspor, a day before the earthquake.

He was the 2015 AFCON Player of the Tournament.

He played for Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton, Porto, Bournemouth.
