Ohio Man Who Claimed To Be Ghanaian Prince Convicted After Scamming Investors Out Of Thousands

An Ohio man who falsely claimed he was African has been convicted of a slew of crimes.

A man from Dayton, Ohio named Daryl Robert Harrison, who went by the fake names Prince Daryl R. Attipoe and Prophet Daryl R. Attipoe, lied about being a Ghanaian prince and scammed at least 14 people out of more than $800,000, reports WLWT.

In his scam, he told victims that he was the owner of an African trucking mining company and led them into investing in it. The plot went on from January 14 to September 2020. He’s now been convicted of several charges, including mail and wire fraud, conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, and witness tampering, WLWT.

He operated the scam with his stepfather; both of them claimed to be ministers at Power House of Prayer Ministries. When people – majority of which were members of the congregation – would make investments with the ministry, he’d withdraw the money and use it to buy luxury items, including homes, vehicles, and more.

He’s now facing up to 20 years in prison, which is the maximum statutory sentence.
