Ghanaian Highlife legend AB Crentsil dead at age 79

Ghanaian Highlife legend, Alfred Benjamin Crentsil, professionally known as AB Crentsil has passed away at the age of 79 years.

The death of the celebrated singer was confirmed by the sounds engineer, Fred Kyei Mensah better known as Fredyma on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in a Facebook post.

“FAREWELL AB CRENSTIL. The original composer and singer of the famous and controversial songs, ‘Moses and Atia, AB Crenstil, has died! He had a stint with a lot of bands before joining the Sweet Talks Band with Smart kansah and then his own band, Ahenfo. His hit songs, ‘Juliana and Obi ba wiase’, cannot be forgotten,” 

the post read.

However, news of his death was also confirmed on the popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter by a renowned and award-winning Ghanaian disc jockey, DJ BIBINI.

His real name is Alfred Benjamin “A. B.” Crentsil and he was born in the year, 1943. He is considered one of the “big three” contemporary Ghanaian vocalists.

Throughout his career, he has won numerous Ghanaian music awards, including the Fontomfrom Evergreen Award, a special honor bestowed upon a musician with 15–20 years of continuous music experience

Some of his songs are “I Go Pay You Tomorrow”, “Papa Samo”, “Moses,” ‘Juliana’, ‘Atia’, ‘Angelina’, ‘Ayen, Devil’, ‘Adwoa’, ‘Adam & Eve’, and many others.
