Amber Heard Says She Understands Why The Jury Sided With Johnny Depp: ‘He’s A Beloved Character And People Feel They Know Him’

Amber Heard says she doesn’t think the outcome of the trial involving Johnny Depp was “fair” but says she understands why the jury took Depp’s side.

“He’s a fantastic actor,” said Heard in her first sit-down interview since losing in her ex-husband’s defamation suit against her. Depp, 59, sued Heard, 36 over a 2018 op-ed that she wrote for The Washington Post, in which she claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse. While she didn’t name Depp, she made mention of several claims during their 2016 divorce, Depp’s legal team said, Entertainment Weekly reports.

Depp has denied all claims made against him by Heard.

“I dont blame them. I actually understand. He’s a beloved character and people feel they know him. He’s a fantastic actor,” said Heard during the NBC News Exclusive interview.. “They had sat in those seats and heard over three weeks of nonstop relentless testimony from paid employees, and towards the end of the trial, randos, as I say.”

She also said that on social media, her reception from the public was not as positive as Depp’s, calling it “unfair.”

“I don’t care what one thinks about me or what judgements you want to make about what happened in the privacy of my home in my marriage behind closed doors,” said Heard. “I don’t presume the average person should know those things, so I don’t take it personally. But even somebody who is sure I am deserving of all this hate and vitriol, even if you think that I’m lying, you still couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that you think on social media there’s been a fair representation. You cannot tell me that you think that this has been fair.”

Heard was ordered to pay Depp more than $10 million in damages.
