Coronavirus Patient Escapes In Tamale

One of the covid-19 patients who tested positive in Tamale has reportedly escaped.

The Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, confirmed the incident on Sagani Tv, a private Tv station in Tamale.

According to the minister, the patient, a woman, scaled the walls of the guest house that is being used to house them and escaped into the township.

“ The patient scaled the walls at the blind side of the security and escaped, she didn’t even pick anything of hers along,” the minister said.

He said there is currently a manhunt for the patient in Tamale.

The Minister revealed that the government is facing difficulties in repatriating the patients adding that their countries are refusing to take them back.

Tamale, the northern regional capital, recorded 10 covid-19 cases at the Tamale Teaching Hospital recently.
The patients who tested positive are eight (8) Guineans and two (2) from Burkina Faso.

The patients traveled from Burkina Faso and Togo respectively through unapproved routes to Ghana.

They then lodged at a hotel (name withheld ) in Tamale for a couple of days before two of them were picked following a tip-off by residents.

The Northern Regional Minister, had said the 10 foreigners were put under mandatory quarantine in Tamale under the direction of the Regional Security Committee for 14 days.

According to him, samples of the patients were sent to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and the results came back positive on the 11th day of their quarantine.

He indicated that the staff of the hotel in Tamale have been quarantined for further checks to ascertain if they were also infected with the virus.

The minister then assured that public to remain calm and continue their normal daily duties.

He disclosed that the borders in the north are being patrolled by the military and other security agencies.

Meanwhile, 40 health workers at the Tamale Teaching Hospital who got in contact with the foreigners were also put on mandatory quarantine.
