Vodafone’s Yolanda Cuba Gets Top CSR Award

In a year that has seen Yolanda Cuba stamp her leadership in Ghana’s telecoms industry, the affable CEO has again been recognised for the innovative and impactful activities Vodafone Ghana is doing in the CSR space.

At the recently held CSR Excellence Awards, Yolanda was adjudged the CSR CEO of the Year whilst Vodafone Foundation won the CSR Award for Education.

Yolanda’s personal drive and passion saw the launch and impressive take-off of the Instant Schools project – a digital education platform changing lives in Ghana.

The platform, which provides quality educational content for students of all ages free-of-charge, already has close to 3-million hits across the country. Vodafone’s National Coding Programme, launched earlier this year by Yolanda, is another initiative seeking to train 10,000 youth across all regions in Ghana in the next five years.

As a high-ambition leader, she has also personally taken it upon herself to support deprived schools on her own accord, by providing them with computers and other accessories, to ensure the students are not left behind. An example is the Dzorwulu Primary School, which recently became a beneficiary of her benevolence.

Collectively, Vodafone, through the Foundation, is impacting lives in the areas of Health and Education; under a strategic intent of ensuring noone is digitally left behind in Ghana.

Commenting, Yolanda Cuba said:

“This is a true reflection of the concerted effort we put in to impact lives in Ghana. I dedicate this award to the staff of Vodafone Ghana and the Foundation for a job well done. We have a duty to do good as a multinational company operating in Ghana. It is part of our ethos in all the markets where we are visible. Over the years, we have made efforts to promote initiatives that benefit society because we are committed to the communities in which our employees live and work.”

The awards ceremony, organised by the Centre for Corporate Social Responsibility, West Africa, rewards organisations and companies committed to sustainability. It also seeks to give recognition to organisations that have implemented initiatives to promote social change in the country.
