Michelle Obama reveals that Melania Trump turned down her offer for help and White House releases statement saying Melania doesn't need Michelle's help

Michelle Obama revealed in her memoir "Becoming" that she offered Melania her assistance if she ever needed it but Melania has never contacted her. And the White House confirmed this by releasing a statement stating that Melania is capable and doesn't need Michelle's help.

Michelle told of how she extended the same courtesy to Melania Trump when she left office that her predecessor, Laura Bush, gave her. Michelle said to Melania that she was just "a phone call away" if she needed help, but Melania never reached out to Mrs Obama to take up the offer even in spite of her 8 years experience as first lady.

In an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts, Michelle Obama was asked if Melania has ever called to take up her offer and she replied: "No… No, she hasn’t."

In reply, the White House released a statement saying Melania doesn't need Michelle.

Trump's communications director, Stephanie Grisham, said in a statement to CNN:

"Mrs. Trump is a strong and independent woman who has been navigating her role as First Lady in her own way. When she needs advice on any issue, she seeks it from her professional team within the White House.”

Michelle Obama, however, added during the interview that she didn't judge how Melania tackles her job as First Lady.

Michelle said: "One of the things you learn as a former, it’s, like, I don’t judge what a current is doing, you know? So I’d prefer not to, you know, speak on what she’s doing versus what I did because I think every first lady approaches this job differently.”

Michelle and Melania reportedly only met once after the election for tea, and this meeting was described as “awkward".
