Idris Elba back in the running for James Bond as boss says ‘it’s time for a black actor’ to claim the role

Idris Elba could be set to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond after producer Barbara Broccoli said “it’s time” for a black actor to step into the role.

Craig has previously told of his hopes to go out on a “high note” on the back of Bond 25, which is believed to be his final outing as the 007 agent.

With all eyes on the next Bond, Broccoli has now given her thoughts about the future of the franchise.

According to the Daily Star, Broccoli told director Antoine Fuqua that she feels a non-white actor in the role would “happen eventually” and put the Luther star forward as a possibility.

Fuqua said: “Idris could do it if he was in shape. You need a guy with physically strong presence. Idris has that.”

The news comes after Superman star Henry Cavill told how he also has his eye on the role.

The 35-year-old is keen to try his hand at playing 007 after Craig steps down.
