German couple jailed for selling their young son to Paedophiles for sex on Darknet

A German court on Tuesday convicted a couple of forced prostitution and rape after they were caught selling their son to Paedophiles on the darknet, an internet area beyond the reach of mainstream search engines.

The Freiburg court jailed 48-year-old Berrin Taha for 12 years and six months, while her partner,  39-year-old Christian Lais, who was the boy's stepfather, received 12 years, the BBC reported.

The couple,  both German nationals were accused of rape, forced prostitution, distribution of child pornography and aggravated sexual assault of children. The boy was nine when the trial began in June.

The stepfather has a previous conviction for paedophilia, AFP reported.

On Monday, the court also jailed a Spanish man for 10 years for sexually abusing the boy repeatedly, a case that horrified Germany.

The defendant Javier Gonzalez Diaz was convicted of "14 counts of aggravated sexual assault, one count of rape and one count of bodily harm while making child pornography," judge Stefan Buergelin said. The 33-year-old was also ordered to pay 18,000 euros ($20,800) to the young victim.
