A group of women from Ghana, who operate in the tourism sector have toured parts of South Africa ahead of the 2018 edition of Africa’s Travel Indaba in Durban South Africa. The group, known as Women In Tourism (WIT), Ghana, toured the famous Sun City resort and Johannesburg before travelling to Durban to take part in the tourism trade show.

While in Durban the group took part in the women in tourism conference as part of Africa’s Travel Indaba and also had dinner with the Deputy Tourism Minister of South Africa, Hon. Elizabeth Thabethe, among other activities.

WIT was formed in Accra earlier this year through the leadership of the CEO of Staple Travel & Tours Limited and current President of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), Mrs. Nancy Quartey Sam. Announcing the formation of WIT over dinner at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Accra earlier this year, Mrs. Sam said this was the beginning of a formidable gathering of women to do good for the society.

She said women have been doing a lot for the country in many sectors and even more so in the tourism sector and the formation of the new association is meant to ensure that there is collaborative effort to increase the participation of women with different backgrounds in the sector.

The WIT delegation to Africa’s Travel Indaba was led by its president and Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassador in Ghana, Mrs. Nancy Sam. It was made up of a few of its members who travelled from Ghana to attend the 2018 Africa’s Travel Indaba and to take part in the activities of the three-day tourism trade event.

It also had as part of the team two of its patrons in the outgoing Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Ghana, Mrs. Pavelyn Tendai Musaka and the Queenmother of Anomabo Traditional Area and CEO of Wankwam Beach Farm, Nana Nbrabo Dabo I

Speaking about the trip to South Africa, Madam Nancy Sam was happy that in such a short time they could organize themselves to attend such a big tourism event as Indaba. She also expressed her gratitude and that of her members to the South African High Commissioner to Ghana and a patron of WIT, Ms. Lulu Xingwana for facilitating their trip to South Africa.

WIT is an association of women working in different areas of tourism and has an Executive Committee comprising Christine Dadson (Vice President), Tosan Katherine Woode (General Secretary), Actress Edinam Atatsi (Deputy General Secretary), Sylvia Dadson of Staple Travel & Tours (Treasurer), Delphine Brew-Hammond of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (Executive Member).
