Alliance Francaise presents Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife, February 24
Eugene Ampadu, popularly known as “Kyekyeku”, is a young lively
Ghanaian musician who combines musical traditions from roots Palmwine (A
style of Ghanaian folk), Highlife and Afrobeat; performing live in new
and exciting sounds.
With lyrics reminiscent of village recreational songs, protest songs,
love poetry and old African spirituality, his music touches on themes
concerned with the well-being of Africa and the world society. Kyekyeku
has collaborated with world-renowned musicians including Koo Nimo (GH),
Peter White (UK/Jazz), Pat Thomas (GH), Gyedu Blay Ambolley (GH) Thais
Morel (Brazil), Mayra Andrade (Cape Verde), Blick Bassy (Cameroun) and
many others. kyekyeku sings and performs tunes that reflect on social
commentary, love, religion, nature etc. and offers Copious amounts of
fun and dancing.
Described by CNN as ‘Wizard of the Guitar’ Kyekyeku carries a sound
draped in silky acoustic guitars, intricate percussive grooves and lush
horns, locked between folk and a throbbing urban Highlife beat.
On Saturday, 24th February 2018, Kyekyeku brings his project
Ghanalogue Highlife on the stages of Alliance Française Accra supported
by contemporaries Reynolds the gentleman, Six Strings, FRA Band, and
Kologo master Senza. For the last 3 years, Kyekyeku has presented his
project to music lovers in Accra before going on tour as a way of paying
homage to his home city where the inspiration for his music has come
from. Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife brings back deep warm grooves
reminiscent of when folk Ghanaian musicians first plugged in, went
electric and funky, creating tons of delightful music popularly known in
Ghana as Highlife.
With a sound placed somewhere between retro Highlife and recent sonic
pallette, Kyekyeku & Ghanalogue Highlife is definitely required
listening for a truly definitive Ghanaian musical experience.
