Woman, 29, arrested for alleged kidnapping
A 29-year-old Nigerian woman who allegedly kidnapped a
one-and-half year old daughter of a drinking spot operator at Osu has
been arrested.
The suspect, Fatima Jibril, a mother of two, who claimed she arrived
in Ghana a few hours before her arrest, was apprehended by some patrons
of the spot, near the Osu beach.
Briefing the Daily Graphic, the Crime Officer of the Osu District
Police Command, Assistant
Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Richard
Daplah, said the child’s mother, accompanied by some of the patrons,
handed over Fatima to the police at about 2 p.m. last Tuesday.
Drinking spot
ASP Daplah said the mother of the child told the police that Fatima
came to her drinking spot and bought a shot of Castle Bridge liquor.
While she was drinking, the daughter of the drinking spot operator
was also playing around and at a point Fatima started playing with the
little girl.
Some patrons of the spot who knew the little girl saw Fatima carrying her and walking away from the spot.
When they questioned Fatima, she started fumbling and took to her heels.
They gave Fatima a hot chase and arrested her.
Interrogation
During interrogation at the Osu Police Station, Fatima told the
investigators that she was drunk and did not know what she was doing.
Mr Daplah advised parents to be vigilant and keep an eye on their
children as the police had been receiving reports of missing children of
late.
Last Monday, he said, the Osu Police received two reports of eight and 11-year-olds who had gone missing.
“They have still not been found. We are doing our best to find them
but parents must also do their part by taking very good care of their
innocent children,” he said.
