Nine dead, 30 injured in accident on Tamale-Kumasi Highway
Nine people died on the spot while 30 others sustained injuries when
two buses collided head-on and ran into a ditch in an accident that
occurred at Yipala near Yapei on the Tamale-Kumasi Highway in the early
hours of Saturday.
The 30 passengers on board both buses who got injured are currently on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital .
The two vehicles involved in the accident are a Yutong and KIA bus
with their registration numbers GC5148Z and GT5892-16 respectively.
The Yutong bus was travelling from Tamale to Kumasi while the KIA bus was also from Kumasi towards Tamale.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO), of the Northern Regional Police
Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr. Mohammed Yusif
Tanko said the Regional Motor, Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU)
received information at about 12.30am on Saturday of the accident.
He said the Regional Commander of the MTTU, ASP Debrah and his men
then rushed to the scene of the accident but upon arrival, both drivers
of the buses were not met at the scene.
