The internet loves this sneakerhead's 'legendary' move before proposing to his girlfriend
Personal trainer Chris Green
has two loves: his fiancée and his sneakers — and both made an
appearance in a video of him popping the question that recently went
viral.
Instead
of getting on one knee like most people who propose do, Green did
something a little different: he took off one of his brand new 2018 Air Jordan 11 Concords to make sure they didn’t crease when he bent down — then asked his girlfriend to marry him.

Green,
who owns the gym Fit Factory Houston in Texas, says he
removed his shoe partly to stall — some family members were running
late to witness the big moment — but also because his kicks just mean
that much. The shoes retail for about $450 at minimum, but if they’re
creased, retail value on them drops should the owner try to resell them.
Green thought the funny move would be a good compromise to entertain those waiting and protect his new kicks.
“On
the way, [I thought] I’m gonna do something, something that men can
understand,” he says.
“The Jordans had just came out. When I get there,
I’m going to do something to lighten the mood.”
It
lightened the mood for not only those who witnessed his move but
thousands on Twitter. Publication All Def Digital posted the video to
its Twitter account where it quickly went viral with more than 10,000
retweets.
Green
and his now-fiancée, Liz Craven, who met at his gym, had been dating
for two years when he decided to propose. It just so happened that he
bought the ring the same day he bought his new sneaks.
“I
got the ring at 12 noon and was going to hold it for a little while,
[but] maybe around 3 p.m., I said meet me here at 7,” he recalls. “I got
the shoes first and then got the ring.”
Green
explains that the shoe move was just about humor, though he did expect
some people to take it the wrong way. But they have nothing to worry
about. He says that Craven knows how important non-creased shoes are.
Plus, she said yes before he could even get down on his knee. “She knows when it comes to my shoes, I don’t play,” he says.
Craven backed him up in an Instagram post of the two hugging after the proposal.
“I
know Chris very well and I know his love for #Jordan’s so when he
pulled his sneaker off nothing about my demeanor changed,” she wrote.
“Our relationship has its own rhythm and flow. We do things how we want
to.”
The
couple plan to wed in March 2019 and talked about incorporating the
shoes for their Twitter fans, but he might need to care for another new
pair of Jordans by then. “Jumpman [Nike] reached out to us,” he says.
