TechCrunch collaborates with Facebook for first Startup Battlefield Africa
TechCrunch and Facebook have collaborated to bring TechCrunch’s very first Startup Battlefield to Africa, at an event scheduled to hold on Wednesday, October 11 at 9:00 AM EAT in Nairobi, Kenya.
The pitch-off competition will feature startups from all over Africa in three categories: Productivity and Utility, Social Good, and Gaming and Entertainment.
Representing Nigeria at the event are Form+, Delivery Science and Dot Learn.
Form+ will be showcasing the way they have been able to change how
humans access data – both online and offline. This is done by allowing
for easy form creation with a mobile form builder, which in turn allows
the form creator both distribute this form via the web as well as
offline to users in a conversational SMS. Additionally, Form+ is
optimised for file management, helping users pass files from any
audience into their cloud storage.
Delivery Science will be sharing how it built a “solution for the
people on the field to make them feel a lot more included in your
business – The ones who make sure your products are loved by your
customers.”
Dot Learn, a Nigeria-based startup will be sharing how it is building
the technology for data-light video learning in emerging markets.

Top notch investors and founders, as well as TechCrunch editors, will
serve as judges to pick the winners in each category as well as an
overall winner – the best early-stage startup in sub-Saharan Africa.
Speakers like Eghosa Omoigui (EchoVC Partners), Tayo Oviosu (Paga), Sacha Poignonnec (Jumia), Dr. Solomon Assefa (IBM Research – Africa), Rebecca Enonchong (AppsTech), Wambui Kinya (Andela), Juliana Rotich (Africa Tech Ventures, BRCK) among others will be present at the event.
At the end of the competition, the panel of judges will select a
winner in each of the three categories, after which one overall winner –
‘Sub-Saharan Africa’s Most Promising Startup’ – will win $25,000 USD
and an all-expense paid trip for two to San Francisco to compete in
TechCrunch’s flagship event: Disrupt SF 2018.
All winners will join TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield Alumni
Network; alumni have collectively raised nearly $7 billion and produced
nearly 100 exits and IPOs to date.
