What a coincidence! Elderly couple named Harvey and Irma are left amazed by namesake hurricanes after 75 years of marriage

In a twist of coincidence, an elderly couple in the United States share the same names as the twin hurricanes which have wreaked havoc in America.

Harvey and Irma Schluter are aged 104 and 93 respectively and have been married for 75 years. But what's interesting about them is the fact that coincidentally, they have the same names as Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma which recently hit across the Carribean and southern America. A lot of people, including the couple, have found this coincidence interesting

"I don’t know how they’ve done that, to have a Harvey and Irma," Irma Schluter told the New York Times on Wednesday. "I don’t know how that worked out."

Hurricane names in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico are usually drawn from an alphabetical list made by the US National Hurricane Center (NHC), which prepares 21 names per year seven years in advance. The next Hurricane will be called Hurricane Jose and the one after that will be Hurricane Katia. Names of hurricanes usually alternate from boy to girl.

The first major tempest of the June-November 2022 season, in other words, will be Alex, and the 21st - if there is one - will be Walter.

Harvey and Irma Schluter are understandably upset by the level of destruction caused by Harvey and Irma.

"Really sad," Irma Schluter said of the reports of carnage in Texas and the Caribbean.

"I have no idea what I’d do; I’ve never been in that kind of a situation," she said. "I’d try and help some people, I don’t know how."
