Present the Whole Truth, Not Assumption - Anita Erskine

Ace broadcaster Gifty Anti has reiterated her strong ties with feminism, insisting not even marriage has stopped her from being one. Her comments came after which a photo of her appeared to be kneeling before her husband sparked debate after being shared on social media.

Some bloggers immediately pounced on the photo, with some people even suggesting that her actions could mean she has now abandoned her feminist roots after getting married.

However, Gifty Anti has rejected such claims, saying she is still very much committed to the feminist cause.

Award winning media personality and women's advocate Anita Erskine shared a piece of words

in an instagram post.

As a woman, a Ghanaian and a media professional, I am always horribly disturbed when we in the Media and Mass Communications space write stories we HAVE NOT researched and even worse SHARE stories others have written, without a strong desire to investigate perhaps even further than our colleague did. I read with amazement yesterday, an article about Gifty Anti kneeling to embrace her husband and HOW the action had upset feminists on social media..... HOW???? @oheneyere_gifty_anti's husband had given her a stool for her birthday. She sat on it and with the warm sentiment of gratitude, embraced her husband. FROM WHERE SHE SAT!!!! So IF the writer of the story had ONLY picked up the phone, called Gifty Anti HERSELF and ASKED for her views on the so called on going feminist chastisement, the writer WOULD then have received clarification regarding the exact meaning of the photo and used his or her article to CORRECT the public perception.

My concern has nothing to do with what feminists are saying or not. Gifty can do with her husband, worship him, dance for him, sing and cook with him in ANYWAY WAY she pleases. SHE doesn't answer to NO GENERAL of NO FEMINIST ARMY!

My question is, as writers of the stories and mangers of the Information channels, why is it sooooooo difficult to make that little tiny effort to investigate a story such that it represents the WHOLE unbiased TRUTH - NOT an assumption, NOT a mere suspicion, NOT hearsay, BUT the truth?

When CNN published a story about us cueing for food, we went ham on social media. So they apologized and took the story down.

So now I'm going HAM on us! To all the spaces that have published that story, Take IT DOWN and apologize! We must learn to DO OUR JOB better! Research. Investigate. Ask questions. Investigate AGAIN before delivering the information to the people! Let's do Ghanaians a favor and stop reducing our public knowledge through the sheer laziness we sometimes exhibit!

The same goes for many other scenarios where and when we haven't done our due diligence with the facts of the story and have simply spewed out plenty english. And to the COPY COPY and PASTE PASTE movement, STOP THAT! Do better!
