"It's been an eventful and interesting week" – Otabil admits

The General Overseer of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr Mensa Otabil has described events of the past week as eventful and interesting, following the collapse of Capital Bank, of which he served as Board Chairman.

In a sermon on Sunday, Dr Otabil recounted events during the past week saying, “Monday was a fortunately good day for me. I was fine on Monday. Tuesday was a very bad day for me. Wednesday was a very terrible day. You go through this stuff and you wonder; wow, what a week!”

According to him, he normally starts the preparation of his Sunday sermons on Tuesdays, however, “this Tuesday, I was not in a frame of mind for sermon. This was not sermon Tuesday.”

“Wednesday definitely wasn’t a sermon Wednesday,” he added.

He however saw a glimmer of hope on Thursday morning and managed to put together a sermon for Sunday.

“On Thursday morning, I started feeling God’s favour…. I got up, I picked my laptop, I opened it and I started putting my ideas down like I normally do and all of a sudden, I just felt like a cloud just left my shoulders,” he said.

The Bank of Ghana last week Monday revoked the licences of UT and Capital banks following their heavy deficiency in capital and liquidity.

Following the revocation, the central bank subsequently approved a Purchase and Assumption (P&A) agreement with the GCB Bank to assume ownership of the deposits and selected assets of the now defunct banks.
