Female black Senator who hoped for President Trump's assassination apologizes amid calls for her resignation

Missouri State Senator, Maria Chappelle-Nadal has offered an apology to President Donald Trump and his family for a Facebook post that hoped for the assassination of the President.

Early Thursday morning, the Democrat Senator wrote in a Facebook comment post “I hope Trump is assassinated!” referring to the Republican President over his reaction to the violence last weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Although, the post was promptly deleted but not quickly enough after it went viral and she has since been told to resign from her role.

Chappelle-Nadal on Sunday held a press conference to apologize to President Trump for the since-deleted Facebook post.

“President Trump I apologize to you and your family,” Chappelle-Nadal said on Sunday at the Wellspring Church in Ferguson, Mo.

“I also apologize to all the people in Missouri. And I also apologize to my colleagues in the Missouri legislature for the mistake that I made.”

Chappelle-Nadal also invoked her faith, explaining “I am a servant of God and I am a servant of the people that I represent. And I failed them both recently.”

But the Missouri State Senator said she has no intention of resigning over the comment.

Reacting to the comment, Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson told FOX News: "To me, there is ways to remove her from office but what I think she should do is take responsibility for her actions in the state of Missouri and resign as a state senator. ”

“I have the ability and right to call on my fellow senators to have her expelled from the Missouri Senate, which I plan to do if she does not resign by the veto session.”
