Adult Education must be encouraged - Educationist
The Principal of Jackson Education College in Kumasi has called for a
holistic approach to adult literacy education to address poverty,
inequality, economic and social disempowerment.
Theodocia Jackson said adult education could help promote active citizenship and peace in democratic societies.
She added that it could be an important intervention mechanism in addressing social and political challenges.
The educationist made the comment during the college’s fifth graduation in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi.
This year’s congregation saw 2,334 newly trained teachers
successfully graduating and were meritoriously awarded diploma
certificates.
She revealed that Jackson’s College of Education (JCE) as the first
private teacher training college in Ghana is spearheading private
distant learning diploma programme in basic education.
Mrs. Jackson said the school is opened to all, including farmers and market women who want to further their education.
She said some opportunities available to students of the college
include access to Student Loan Trust Fund, Scholarship Scheme by the
Jackson Foundation, opportunity to do National Service and Ghana
Education Service postings.
The Principal announced that, in line with her objective of training
good human resource base for the country, the College has introduced
French Education and Early Childhood Education for the 2017/2018
academic year.
The introduction of French education is in conformance with the
government’s intended policy of making the study of French compulsory in
basic schools
Mrs. Jackson appealed to government to prioritise developing the
education sector given its critical role in the socio-economic progress
of the society.
