Jumia Travel launches the 2017 African hospitality report

Jumia Travel has launched the African version of it’s hospitality report at a ceremony in Accra. The report which was compiled together with Accor hotels after many months of research, shares insights into various trends in the hospitality and tourism industries. 
 
Speaking at the event, the country Manager of Jumia Travel Ghana, Omolara Adagunodo said, ‘’The region is expected to attract 64 M international tourist arrivals in 2017, as compared to 58 M in 2016 (+ 8% vs 2015), and 110 M by 2027 which means we have a responsibility to adequately prepare for the challenges that comes with the increasing numbers.”

Among other facts included in this report is that in 2016, the African Union launched a common visa policy including visa-on-arrival for all African citizens. This agenda also includes the goal of having a single African continental passport by 2020. Adoption of visa liberalization policies could increase Africa’s tourism by 5 to 25%.

Jumia Travel, a leading online travel agency in Africa, was well placed to explain how digital platforms are becoming increasingly important for the sector. Africa’s leading inventory of hotels, lodges, and guest houses offered statistical insights into online hospitality searches and booking trends. The report also includes exclusive interviews with Paul Midy (CEO of Jumia Travel), Edmond Moukala (Director of African Department, UNESCO), Tewolde Gebremariam (CEO, Ethiopian Airlines), and Souleymane Khol (VP Sales & Marketing, Distribution & Revenue Management for Africa and the Indian Ocean – AccorHotels).

The company also shed more light on its #DemocratizeTravel campaign and other important company achievements in the past few months. Notable among these were the launch of flights , packages to outbound destinations and the Jumia Travel Smart. (a  loyalty program for cherished customers)
