15% transport fares increment takes effect today

The 15 percent increment in Transport fares will take effect today, Thursday April 6, 2017, across the country.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) had earlier justified the 15% transport fares increment saying fuel prices and prices of the spare parts have gone up since the last review of transport fares last year.

According to the GPRTU, the increment is long overdue and should have been done two months ago.

The increment also comes at a time when government has abolished duty on the importation of spare parts and reduced the Special petroleum tax rate from 17.5 percent to 15 percent.

Issah Kalifa, General Secretary of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) told Starr News fares have not been increased since February 2016.
