Video: Oprah Winfrey is rethinking her chances of becoming president

Oprah Winfrey might be warming up to the idea of running for president. In a new interview on Bloomberg Television’s David Rubenstein Show: Peer-to-Peer Conversations, the TV icon reveals that she has thought about a Winfrey candidacy for commander-in-chief.

“Have you ever thought that given the popularity you have, we haven’t broken the glass ceiling yet for women, that you could actually run for president and be elected?” Rubenstein asked.

“I actually never thought that that was, I never considered the question even a possibility,” said Winfrey, 63.

Despite her decades in the spotlight, Winfrey abstained from endorsing a presidential candidate until then-Sen. Barack Obama’s successful bid for the White House in 2008. She endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race and said in an October interview with T.D. Jakes, “You don’t have to like her. Do you like this country? Do you like this country? You better get out there and vote.”

In the same interview, Winfrey referred to future President Donald Trump as a “demagogue,” saying, “Do you like freedom and liberty? Do you like this country? Okay. Do you like democracy or do you want a demagogue? Okay.”

Presidential hopeful or not, Winfrey has plenty to keep her busy: In addition to contributing to her cable network OWN, her HBO movie The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks debuts in April; she has signed on to become a special contributor to 60 Minutes in the fall; and she will star in Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time.
