NPP supporters seize public toilets in Eastern Region

Supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the New Juaben municipality in the Eastern region have taken over all public toilets in the area.

The rampaging supporters started seizing the facilities after the swearing-in of President Nana Akufo Addo on Saturday.

Even though some of the takeover operations were relatively peaceful, others turned violent leading to police intervention.

The move by the NPP youth is in retaliation to similar violent takeover by supporters of the opposition National Democratic Congress in 2009 when the party won power.

According the New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Richardson Kumekor, all cases reported to the police will be sent to court for the court to decide on them to serve as deterrent.

Meanwhile, the Eastern regional Police Command on Tuesday during its weekly security meeting with district Commanders, directed the district commanders to intensify security in their jurisdictions .

Speaking to Starr News, the Public Relations officer of the Eastern regional Police Command, ASP Nketia Yeboah, said the police is investigating all the cases reported.
