Sogakope EPA Boss Escape Death

The mangled vehicles after the accident
Two persons died on the Tema-Aflao highway when a Toyota Tundra reportedly collided with a vehicle belonging to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

The driver in-charge of the EPA director’s Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GE 508-16, Samuel Nunyanu, 30, died on the spot in the gory crash which occurred around the Kpone barrier in the Greater Accra Region.


Michael Affrey, a 32-year-old resident of Dawhenya near Tema in-charge of the Tundra with registration number GE 5594-15, also lost his life on the spot.

The remains of the deceased persons have since been deposited at the Tema General Hospital for autopsy.

However, the EPA boss survived the accident but sustained various degrees of injuries, including fractured legs. He was initially rushed to the Tema General Hospital before referred to the 37 Military Hospital in Accra where he is responding to treatment.

Chief Superintendent Oduro Amaning, Regional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in Tema, told DAILY GUIDE that the accident which occurred Saturday dawn was a result of the two vehicles colliding.

He said the two vehicles skidded off the road, falling on the shoulders of the road after they somersaulted severally.

According to him, the vehicle carrying the director of EPA was coming from Sogakope towards Tema, while the Toyata Tundra was approaching from the opposite direction.

He added that Tundra driver attempted to overtake a vehicle from the valley road and moved into the lane of the EPA director’s lane, causing his vehicle to ram into the EPA boss.

Chief Superintendent Amaning continued that police were immediately alerted by other drivers who chanced on the incident. He added that both drivers unfortunately passed on after the accident, with the EPA boss as the only survival.

Both vehicles, the police commander stated, were cleared off the road to another location, as they have begun invest igations into the matter.
