CMA Denies Removing Beyonce Performance From Website, Social Media After Racist Backlash

The Country Music Association did not remove mentions of Beyonce's performance at Wednesday night's CMA Awards from its website and social media, despite reports to the contrary. At least, that's the word from the Association, which called Beyonce taking the stage  with the Dixie Chicks as a "highlight of the evening."

According to the association, the only mention of Beyonce's appearance that was removed was an unapproved, five-second promotional clip that was pulled prior to the broadcast.

"CMA has not erased any mentions of Beyonce's performance on the CMA Awards," the Association said in a statement Thursday. "In advance of the broadcast, CMA removed a five-second promotional clip from ABC.com and CMA's Facebook page. The promo was unapproved and CMA removed it prior to the broadcast. Beyonce's performance with Dixie Chicks was a highlight of the evening and we are continuing to share the amazing full-length performance clip via our official social channels."

The statement came following reports that the site had scrubbed any mention of Beyonce's appearance from its site and social media accounts, due to racist and other inappropriate comments that were left by angry country music fans.

Beyonce appeared at the awards Wednesday to perform the country-tinged "Daddy Lessons," from her album "Lemonade." The choice of performer immediately proved to be controversial, with some fans tweeting their outrage at Beyonce's inclusion.

"Beyonce performing at #CMAawards50 will make sense 2me the day @GeorgeStrait is asked to open the #BETAwards w/Amarillo by Morning," one angry country music fan groused.

"@Beyonce keep that sh-t out of country music please!" another demanded.

TMZ reported Thursday that references to and images from the performance were scrubbed after people began leaving messages such as, "That's right folks. Beyonce performed at the CMAs last night & is on a mission to take country music away from us, hardworking white people!"

The online outlet later reported that the Association had begun to add images from the performance again.
