Wisa ‘fined’ Gh¢5k for jumping bail

Wisa
An Accra Circuit Court has ordered hiplife artiste, Eugene Ashie, popularly known as Wisa, to make a security deposit of Gh¢5000 after jumping bail on two occasions.

The presiding judge, Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, said Wisa will lose the money to the State if he refuses to appear before the court again.

The court issued a bench warrant for Wisa’s arrest after he failed to appear before the court last May for trial. He is before the court for allegedly exposing his manhood on stage during an entertainment show last December.

He has been charged with gross indecent exposure. The prosecution prayed the court to remand Wisa into custody because he showed disrespect to the court or grant him a stiffer bail condition to deter him from jumping bail again.

According to Kasapa FM’s court correspondent Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman, Jerry Avernogbor, lawyer of Wisa, pleaded with the court not to incarcerate his client.

According to the lawyer, the conduct of the ‘Ekiki me’ hitmaker was not deliberate as he was caught up in an unfortunate situation at that time. Mr Avernogbor therefore prayed the court to rescind the bench warrant, saying he will ensure that such situation does not reoccur.

The case has since been adjourned to August 12.
